Vermont is a wonderful place to live, but it's gotten harder to afford. Here's where Mitch stands on the issues shaping our district and our state.
Fiscal Responsibility
Vermont's spending has grown far faster than our paychecks, and it's Vermonters who foot the bill. Mitch will push to slow the growth of state spending, cut red tape on small businesses, and make sure every dollar in Montpelier is spent like it's your own.
Housing Affordability
Too much of Vermont's housing stock is old, and building new homes costs too much. Mitch supports cutting unnecessary permitting barriers and backing programs that lower the real cost of building and renovating homes, so more Vermonters can live near where they work.
Education & Property Taxes
Education property taxes have climbed more than 40% since 2020 even as enrollment has fallen. Mitch believes Vermont can deliver a strong 21st-century education without asking families to keep paying more for a shrinking system, and he'll push for real cost containment paired with real results.
Health Care Costs
Vermont has some of the most expensive health care in the country. Mitch supports restoring real competition to our insurance and provider markets, reining in exorbitant pricing, and giving families more affordable options — including a return to association health plans.
Public Safety
Every household in this district deserves to feel safe. Mitch backs giving law enforcement and local towns the resources they need, addressing addiction and mental health at the root, and holding a system accountable when it fails to keep repeat offenders off the street.
Energy & Affordability
Vermont is already a national leader on the environment. Mitch supports a practical, affordable path to cleaner energy that doesn't punish families who can't move as fast as regulators demand, and he'll push for policy built with rural and working Vermonters at the table.
Smart Regulation
Protecting Vermont's landscape and helping small businesses grow aren't opposites. Mitch wants faster, more predictable permitting so local employers, builders, and landowners can plan with confidence, while still holding the line on what makes Vermont, Vermont.
Flood Recovery & Resilience
Recent flooding showed how much our communities depend on clear state support and smart river management. Mitch backs better coordination between state and federal agencies and common-sense steps — like keeping our waterways clear — to reduce the damage of the next storm.
